Are Banners Any Good Now?

PPC is so hot these days that people are thinking that banners are no longer effective. Well, there is no doubt that PPC is a powerful way of bringing targeted traffic to you website, but that doesn’t mean that banners are not effective any longer. You know, your PPC campaigns won’t be effective at all if you don’t select the right keywords. The same way, if you don’t do banner advertisement correctly, it won’t be fruitful. Hence, it all boils down to the fact that if you don’t do proper research and don’t display your ad where your target market is, you will waste your time and money. So, it’s all about starting a campaign after proper research to make it work for you and your business.

Let’s first talk about the characteristics of effective banners:

Quality

When you create your banner, do you ensure that it is of high quality? You will say, yes of course. Now, if you are going to place your banner on another website to bring traffic to yours, did you first study their layout and color scheme and then designed your banner accordingly? If not, then this time you have made a mistake. Quality is not about how colorful your banner is. Quality is about making it catchy on a website and it can happen after you thoroughly analyze the page where your banner will be placed.

Content

When you write content for your banner, make sure you make it short and catchy. No need to write long paragraphs. You need to convey your message in just a few words and those words must be attractive and create your image professionally. Writing content for your banner design may take sometime. So, I suggest you don’t rush and take your time. Quality content is very important if you want to make viewers click on your banner and visit your website.

Now, let’s talk about where you should place your banner:

You need to find an industry related vertical portal to ensure that your banner is seen by people interested in your products or services. However, if you find a portal instead of vertical portal that is willing to display your banner, then you must ensure that they display your banner on pages relevant to your products or services. Promoting your banner on irrelevant pages will only waste your time and money and you won’t get any results. It will be similar to bidding on wrong keywords in PPC.

One important thing I want to discuss now. If you think that you should only create one banner, then you are wrong. To advertise on different websites, you will need different banners. You will have to change the banner based on the requirements of websites where you want to display your banner. For example, one site may ask for a different size than another site. One site may ask to provide banner .jpg, whereas another site may ask for .gif, and so on. So, you will have to create several banners based on requirement.
